87-Year-Old Woman Dies after Pickup Crashes into Home

Police say the driver, 20-year-old Nicholas Roe, initially fled the scene, but was later located and brought back to the area.
HOT SPRINGS, AR -- An 87-year-old woman has died after a pickup crashed through her home.

According to the Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD), officers responded to the home in the 100 block of Lacey Street shortly after 2:00 Tuesday morning after receiving a call that a pickup had run into the side of the residence.

Officers saw a red 2002 Dodge pickup lodged in the north side of the home. When they walked into the house, they found 87-year-old Mary Dukes deceased.

Police say the driver, 20-year-old Nicholas Roe, initially fled the scene, but was later located and brought back to the area.

According to a preliminary fatal crash summary by the Arkansas State Police, Roe was driving southbound on Lacey Street when he lost control of the pickup, ran off the roadway and hit the house, striking Burks in the process.

Roe was taken to the Hot Springs Police Department where he was questioned by detectives.

Police say charges are pending.
