3rd Annual Junction Bridge Regatta set for this Saturday

The Junction Bridge Board will host the Third Annual Junction Bridge Regatta Exhibition and Watch Party Saturday September 21st.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR  --  The Junction Bridge Board will host the Third Annual Junction Bridge Regatta Exhibition and Watch Party Saturday September 21st along the Arkansas River.

The Sailboat Exhibition Races will be presented by the Grande Maumelle Sailing Club, led by Tracy Sykes, Club Commodore.  The Rowing Exhibition Races will be presented by the Arkansas Boathouse Club, led by Steve Denne, President.

Spectators will have a spectacular vantage point to watch the boat races from the Junction Bridge during the watch party on the North Little Rock side of the bridge. 

Sailing and Rowing events will be from 3:30 to 6:00. Events will include youth teams and master sailing and rowing teams.

The Junction Bridge Regatta is family oriented and open to the public; no tickets are required. Light snacks and beverages will be available to purchase. Bring casual chairs; no coolers allowed. Music will be provided from 3:30 to 7:00 by Rob Moore’s band Mojo Depot.

Awards will be presented at 6:30 by Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines, North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith, Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola and Junction Bridge Board Chair Eddie Armstrong. The gorgeous sunset will be at 6:45 pm.

According to Steve Denne, President of the Arkansas Boathouse Club “The rowing crews will start at the Junction Bridge and proceed upstream near the Baring Cross Bridge. Then they will race back to the Junction Bridge.”

“The sailboats will enter the river downstream at the North Little Rock ramp near the Arkansas Boathouse docks and will proceed upstream and then back to the Junction Bridge for their race,” said Tracy Sykes, Commodore for the Grande Maumelle Sailing Club.

Access to the Junction Bridge is from Washington Street in North Little Rock near the Verizon Arena or from Clinton Avenue in Little rock near the Ottenheimer Plaza in the River Market. The 1800-foot long pedestrian bridge is one of the Six Bridges on the Arkansas River downtown.
