What is Rendezvous?

Rendezvous (n. pl.) rend-dez-vous (-vooz)
  1. A meeting at a prearranged time and place.
  2. A prearranged meeting place, especially an assembly point for troops or ships
  3. A popular gathering place
tr. & intr. v. rend-dez-voused, ren-dez-vous-ing
  1. To bring or come together at a rendezvous

For going on 18 years, all the chapters of the Arkansas Canoe Club come together for a common purpose on a weekend in September. That purpose? To have a lot of fun and to expose people to what a wonderful organization the ACC truly is. This year is no exception. Activities such as rolling clinics, boat-ball, surfing at Rockport, Hometown Throwdown, boat demos, silent auction, kids activities, float trips, etc.. are all on the schedule for this year. Participate in as much or as little of the planned activities as you want, or just spend a lazy day hanging around in a hammock or swimming in beautiful Lake Catherine. The Rendezvous is a little bit like a family reunion, only a whole lot more fun. So, come on "troops" and grab your "ships" and come on down to Camp Couchdale for a litle bit of rendezvousing!!!

ArkLaTex Chapter Bayou Buffet

Once again the ArkLaTex Chapter will be treating all of us to a nice taste of the bayou with a Cajun cook-out on Friday night. They will begin serving at 6:00 pm and continue until 8:00. Cost is $10.00 per person and includes salad and bread along with water or tea. What a great way to support one of the fastest growing chapters of the Arkansas Canoe Club!

Potluck Dinner Saturday Night

The kitchen in the dining hall will be available starting at 5:30 to warm food and dinner will start around 6:30. Please be sure to bring a dish to share. Be creative and try for something just a bit more tempting than rolls or potato chips please. Also, bring your own plate/serving dish and utensils. If you need to keep something cool until Saturday night, there should be room in the kitchen refrigerators. This year, in addition to the usual Potluck fare, our Dutch Oven Cook Off Dishes will also be on hand at the potluck for everyone to enjoy!

Silent Auction

As always the club will be hosting a silent auction to raise money for the Ron Gillham Conservation Fund. This fund is used to sponsor local conservation, river access, and environmental causes. Donations can be brought to Rendezvous or sent with someone coming to the event. This year, make sure that if you're a member of a particular chapter, you let the folks know which chapter the donation comes from because this year there is a chapter contest to see who can raise the most money. There should be lots of great stuff to bid on at the event.

Boat Raffle

A big thanks this year to the crew at Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters and STAR inflatables who are providing the club with a boat to raffle off. This year, with your donation to the Arkansas Canoe Club Instructor Education Fund, you could take home a 12' Bug Series Raft from STAR!!! Tickets will only be sold at Rendezvous and there will only be 200 tickets sold. The winner must be present at Rendezvous, so be sure not to miss out on your chance to take home this incredible boat from STAR Inflatables and Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters!

"Friday Night Lights" Boat Ball

A new event for this year's Rendezvous that promises to be a crowd favorite and tradition to Rendezvous for years to come. After the ArkLaTex Chapter's Bayou Buffet, make your way down to the Lake Catherine Lagoon for a rousing game of boat ball! This exciting game of water polo meets soccer meets kayaking is too much fun to miss out on! And if that wasn't enough, play it at night by spotlights. All boat styles are welcome, recreations, whitewater, canoe, etc...Come to play or come to watch the excitement!

Chapter Showdown! Rescue Rodeo

In years past, the Rescue Rodeo has been a lot of fun and also very "educational" not only for the participants, but for the spectators. This year, its a chapter showdown! Look on as teams of 3 or 4 from each ACC chapter test their skills in rescue techniques on both land and water-based skill challenges. They'll race against each other through 5 different stations to determine who the "safest" chapter of the ACC is! This will be big fun and the winning team will take home a prize package from Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters. Get your teams together, practice and don't miss out on this event!

Roll Clinics

In an effort to allow more time for "impromtu" trips and family time at this year's Rendezvous as well as reducing the number of volunteers needed and increasing the amount of fun, the large number of clinics usually found at Rendezvous will be replaced with only the roll clinics at the pool. Meet up to fine tune your roll, help teach, or get started learning how to roll your kayak or canoe.

Down River Water, Rockport Play Time, and Hometown Throwdown

Thanks to the cooperation of Entergy and Ted Smethers, we have (tentatively) scheduled a nine-hour release for both Saturday and Sunday. Look for impromtu down river trips happening and look for the water to be turned on at the dam around 6 AM and at the ledge from 9AM - 5ish both days. The "Porterfield" Access will again be open on river right to accommodate shuttling and hanging out to avoid the crowds at the usual "Park Side" put in. Gates will close at 6 PM so plan to park on the Malvern side if you are staying later. This year, the third annual Hometown Throwdown series will come to a close on Rendezvous weekend. Brought to you by worldkayak.com and Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters. Check at the gate for specifics as these events are a BLAST!!!

Vendors, Sponsors, & Used Gear Exchange

This year, our sponsors of Rendezvous and the ACC will have booth space available as well as the usual "gently worn" gear from our members. This means Rendezvous is a great place to pick up some gear, old or new! Be sure to visit Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters, Mowhawk Canoes, Ozark Mountain Trading Company, and our other sponsors for some great deals over the weekend. Bring your stuff to sell and also some cash to buy!

As usual all events are subject to slight change. Usually in the direction of additions to the schedule! Don't miss out on the best Rendezvous ever! Stay for the weekend or stay just for an afternoon. Hey, its FREE!!!!!
