Recruiting: Hogs Land Combo Guard Embery

For the latest, Richard Davenport has more on Razorback Recruits in Basketball and Football:

Here's the transcription from that interview:

Drew Amman: "Here we go time now for recruiting here on the Pig Trail. And as always Richard Davenport joins us from WholeHogSports and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Follow us on Twitter as well as you can follow Richard @ArRecruitingGuy. Richard let's start with hoops and Keyshawn Embery committed to Arkansas on Saturday. He's 6-4, 187 pounds."

Richard Davenport: "Yeah he had 22 offers. He obviously had a large list of schools that wanted him on campus. Obviously he chose to be a Razorback. That was really big. He visited Arkansas about two weeks ago for the second time. He visited last year about this time. The relationship he built with TJ Cleveland and coach Anderson was key. He really fell in love with Arkansas' style of play and the atmosphere at Arkansas. Very good pickup because he's a combo guard. He can play the one or the two. So that's a good way to start your weekend."

Drew Amman: "Yeah absolutely let's go to the state of Texas now and talk about Jordan Phillips from Arlington. 6-7, 210. This guy is a three star. He visited Arkansas this weekend right?"

Richard Davenport: "That he did. He had a really, really good time. I think Arkansas is in good shape with Jordan. He plans to visit Virginia Tech and Georgetown and then make a decision. Like I said I think Arkansas is in a good place with him. He was impressed with the atmosphere and just Fayetteville itself. The relationship that he has with Scotty Thurman I think is really big. I think Arkansas has an advantage just because it is so much closer to home and he's a big family guy. So look out for him in the future like I said I feel good, really good about him being a Razorback."

Drew Amman: "Alright this kid Reggie Chaney, he has an offer from the Razorbacks. I think if I remember correctly the last time we talked about this kid you just flat out said this guy looks the part at power forward. Tell me more about Reggie, he's 6-8."

Richard Davenport: "Yeah that he does. He's like you said 6-8, 230. Very very chiseled. He looks like a guy that is in his junior or senior year of college. I mean he even said that some people think he is already in college or even on the professional level. Because he's got that physique already. Which obviously that will continue to get better. But he felt really comfortable with Arkansas. Liked spending time with the players. Seemed to really get along with those guys. Again the coaching staff really feels good with those guys. He and Jordan had dinner at coach Anderson's house on Saturday night. He said he felt like a member of the family already. So I think that is a big plus. He has other visits to TCU, Texas A&M and another one planned and then he will maybe make a fifth visit. But the plan right now is to sign in the early signing period."

Drew Amman: "Alright let's go to football now and Rockwall, Texas. We are talking about Tanner McCalister. Arkansas obviously trying to beef up the secondary long term. This guy is a DB, had a huge game on Friday right?"

Richard Davenport: "That he did. He had 305 yards rushing. He had five tackles, two tackles for loss. He had a pick six that was called back because of penalty. I mean that's a night that obviously was big for his team because he contributed on both sides of the ball. To be able to run for 300 yards and then also play 45 snaps on defense you know he was ready to go home and take a nap."

Drew Amman: "Yeah absolutely. Let's finish about twenty seconds here on Emmit Gooden because he has committed to the Hogs. He's 6-4 and he's a kid who is from the juco ranks. But he visited Oklahoma."

Richard Davenport: "Yeah I had him on my radio show Thursday night. He said there's nothing to worry about. He's 100 percent Razorback. But anytime you visit another school  there's going to be questions. I know coach Bielema and coach Scott have been talking to him. He has re-assured them he's solid. So only time will tell."

Drew Amman: "Alright good to hear that news of course. Richard as always great to hear all the news in this recruiting report. That's RD, Richard Davenport from WholeHog Sports. Back with more of the Pigtrail right after this."
