As Former Hog Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn brings the Auburn Tigers to Fayetteville Saturday, he addresses his relationship with Head Hog Bret Bielema. Both coaches are in their fifth year at their respective schools.
"I get along great with Bret. Have a lot of respect for him, you know, as a coach and as a person. I know early on there was some uncomfortable things, but I don't really feel that way anymore. They're ultra-competitive and they're wanting to beat us and we're ultra-competitive and want to beat them," Gus Malzahn said.
Malzahn's Assistant Tim Horton was a three-year starter at Arkansas and also served on the Razorback Coaching Staff.
"Obviously some of their coaches, including Gus have been here, you know, and his story that involves the state and they've tried to recruit a lot of our players. A lot of our guys that are in-state guys, I would say that most of the time, the guys that had multiple SEC offers, Auburn was in the mix for those guys. So, there's a lot of personal stories in that too. I think there's a lot in this game that's invested, more than just the game itself," Bret Bielema said.
Bielema's Hogs kickoff at 6:30 p.m. tonight on SEC Network. The last time Malzahn's Tigers played at Razorback Stadium, they lost an SEC Classic, 54-46 in four overtimes.
