Aaron Tries Ice Skating

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Last year he hit the beach to cover the Summer Olympics in Rio.
Next year KARK 4 Today co-host Aaron Nolan heads to polar opposite conditions when he covers the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

There's a whole slew of sports to get ready for, so he hit the ice in Little Rock to find out more about skating.

The poise, precision and pageantry of figure skating will be on full display in PyeongChang.

"I love learning new things, and accomplishing my goals," says Pooja Kalyan.

The 14-year-old Arkansan found an early love on the ice.

"When I was six," she says.

She has since succeeded. In fact, two weeks ago she won the Southwest Regional Championship and in four years, this skater has high hopes.

"I want to be competing at the Olympic stage, have won numerous National and World Titles, by the time I get to that point," she says.

So, who better to teach Aaron a few techniques.

She starts with the basics.

"What modern song should I figure skate to,?" Aaron asks Pooja.

"Usually figure skaters skate to classical music, but pop songs are becoming pretty popular," she says.

"What Taylor Swift? Look what I made you do," he says.

"If we were in Korea and I need a really good routine, can you show me something I need to do," Aaron queries.

"I would say crossover. A crossover is, you put your foot out and you bring your other foot over it," Pooja tells him.

An advanced step that Aaron says he was never going to get.

"So you wanna step your foot out and you wanna cross your other foot over," Pooja shows him again.

"Did y'all see the grace and elegance that Pooja just showed me," Aaron continues. "I don't have it."

Everything Pooja showed Aaron is what you want to watch for at the Winter games.
