West Memphis Memorial for Fallen Officers

CRITTENDEN COUNTY, AR -- Crittenden County is honoring every firefighter, police officer, sheriff's deputy and state trooper who has given their life in the line of duty.

A new memorial to the county's fallen officers was dedicated this morning.

Hundreds came to honor ten men who have died in the line of duty.

Today West Memphis' former police chief spoke at the ceremony.

Bob Paudert lost three officers as chief, one of them was his son.

He says life goes on but as we move forward, this tribute will ensure those men are never forgotte.

Ten names are inscribed on Crittenden County's new fallen officers memorial.

Men who were West Memphis police officers and fire fighters, Crittenden County sheriff deputies and Arkansas state troopers.

Former West Memphis police chief Bob Paudert's son's name is on there.

Sgt Brandon Paudert and officer Bill Evans were murdered during a traffic stop four years ago.

"I know what it takes to get through this horrible horrible tragedy that we experienced, that is people like you that supported us. And your support today by being here means a lot to the Evans family and Paudert family," said former West Memphis Police Chief, Bob Paudert.

The memorial is a symbol of the town's grief and their pride in the men and women who serve says Arkansas State Senator, Keith Ingram.

"We can never repay them for their years of service, nor can we repay their families for loaning them to us." said senator Ingram.

"The region and state is composed of courageous heros and she-roes, fearless and strong, brave and resilient who choose to serve and are willing to do whatever it takes, including placing their lives on the line," said senator Ingram.

"We'll never get over it, but we have to continue we have to move forward and we have to make a productive life of what we have left so others may live," said Paudert.

The memorial was designed by two architecture students from the University of Arkansas.

Crittenden County raised over $300,000 to build it.
