LITTLE ROCK, AR - Rodney Wright edged out Simon Haynes Tuesday night to become the GOP nominee for the position of Saline County Sheriff.

Wright advances to face Democrat Rodney Goshien in November.

Haynes is a 20-year veteran of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office where he's served as a captain.

Wright heads the Benton Police Department's SWAT team.

Neither candidate had ever worked for the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

The office came under fire last year after former Sheriff Bruce Pennington was arrested and subsequently resigned. At one point, Pennington declared himself a candidate for the May Republican primary.
