VAN BUREN, AR (KNWA) - Starting Monday, the city is tightening security around the Van Buren Municipal Complex.
A metal detector and x-ray machine have been added to the entrance of the complex, which includes City offices and the Crawford County District Courtroom.
These security procedures are an effort ensure that no weapons or contraband are being brought into the building. The complex began increased security measures back in 2011 after a man armed with a gun walked into the courthouse and fired off 70 rounds, hitting one person.
The metal detector and x-ray machine will be operated by Van Buren Police officer. The city is asking folks visting the courthouse or offices to allow extra time to accommodate the new procedures.
