BAXTER COUNTY, AR - A social media post gets the credit for helping find a missing elderly Baxter County man safe.
The 82-year-old was found just a few hours after being reported missing by a woman who saw a post about his disappearance on Facebook.
The Baxter County Sheriff's Office says around 9 this morning, a caregiver went to the man’s home on Wintergreen Lane in the Norfork area and found his dog locked in a bedroom and the man gone. The last contact the caregiver had with the man had been at 7 p.m. the night before when the caregiver left the home.
Sheriff’s Deputies, the K-9 tracking team from Calico Rock Prison and the Sheriff’s Helicopter all were involved in the search. Around noon today, a woman called 911 to report seeing an elderly man matching the description near her home. Deputies responded and found the man unharmed but confused. He was checked out by medical personnel from Baxter Regional Medical Center after he was returned home.
The woman told deputies she saw a Facebook post about the missing man and realized it was close to her home. She got into her vehicle and started looking for him. A short time later she spotted him and called 911. The man was found about a half-mile from his home in a wooded area.
