SILOAM SPRINGS, AR -- After a drowning raised concerns at Siloam Springs Whitewater Recreation Park -- they are offering a class on water safety.

People came out hoping to learn about safety on the rapids.

The class taught methods to stay safe while on the water.

The river is a fast-flowing rapid and the city says it's important for the public to be prepared when they are on it.

Public Safety Director Greg Neely says they want to prevent any further tragedies.

"Certainly, the tragedy is in the back of our mind, and certainly, if there is any incidents in the future, we hope that they can be prevented through forums such as this," Neely said.

The city says it plans to partner with more water safety groups and have more classes like this in the future.
