Police: Car Hits Boy Walking Home from School, Drives off
LITTLE ROCK, AR - A 12-year-old boy is recovering and an accused driver is in jail after what police say was a hit-and-run accident on the city's southwest side.
It happened at the intersection of Baseline Rd. and Oman Road as the victim was walking home from school.
That's where officers arriving at the scene say they found the victim lying unconscious in the street and watched the suspect get into her car and drive away in a blue Chevrolet Aveo.
While attending to the injured the boy, the officers simultaneously broadcast the information on the suspect's vehicle.
Officers nearby stopped the car at Baseline Rd. and Chicot Rd. and took the woman behind the wheel into custody.
She's identified as Estefana De Maria Garza-Alarcon, 22. Police say she's been charged with hit and run and driving without a license.
The boy was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital where he was in stable condition with non-life threatening serious injuries at last report.
Police say a hold was placed on Garza-Alarcon, a Guatemalan citizen, because she's believed to be a flight risk.
