He's worked with his hands nearly his entire life.
"I've been building since I was about 5 years old,” he said.
And he's been cranking them out since his first sale, which also happens to be when he got the name for his company, Black Hat Designs.
"I bought my first one in 1972 with the first check I ever got,” he recalled. “I went and bought a new black hat, I got a hair cut and I bought a dozen jelly filled donuts."
Jerry prides himself on putting his heart and soul, and even a couple fingers, into his work.
"Cut that thumb off,” he said.
Jerry is now a part owner with his wife Tamra, who now does most of the cutting. And it's all out of their little shop by their home in Mulberry.
The Coles have created quite the household name, specializing in household furniture like kitchen islands. The two have their specialty in creating 1800's saloon style bars.
His target audience is anyone.
"People couldn't afford them. $30,000 to $40,000. I said I'll build something everyone can have one,” Cole said.
They only exhibit their products at two furniture shows a year but get enough orders to keep them busy year round.
It's an Arkansas business ran by a man and his wife you might never have heard of that have built quite the name out of only their shop and a little hard work.
