FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KNWA) - Police arrested a Fayetteville man for attempted capital murder on Tuesday after officers say he tried to stab one of their own.

According to a police report, an officer spotted Jason Clampit, 34, digging through a car at the North Street Mini-Mart very early Tuesday morning.

When the officer walked up, he said he noticed Clampit had a large knife on him and that he was reaching for it. The police officer tased Clampit, then tried to arrest him, but says Clampit pulled out the knife and tried to stab him. Police reports show the officer then drew his gun, causing Clampit to drop the knife and run off.

Police caught up with Clampit several hours later. They pulled over a car on I-49 and Clampit was inside. He now faces several charges, including attempted capital murder and fleeing. He was arrested last week as well, on drug-related charges.
