A white police officer shot an unarmed black 12-year-old named Deaunta Farrow.
Following the shooting, a street was named after the victim.
Many believe while there are clear similarities the main difference was how the citizens of West Memphis reacted.
"There is a parallel and the parallel is uncanny. In that how do police perceive the people they are supposed to be protecting when they are on patrol in these neighborhoods what is there mindset on the street."
Erik Sammis, the officer involved in the Farrow case was cleared of any wrong doing.
But it took seven state and federal investigations.
