Conway, Arkansas -
CONWAY, AR (News release) The Conway Police Department (CPD) has a warrant for the arrest of 26-year-old Michael Mitchell.
Mitchell, who is suspected of burglarizing a Conway AT&T store on Amity Road, walked away from the Conway Regional Medical Center Thursday night. He was receiving treatment of injuries he sustained from an accident while trying to get away from Russellville Police.
According to Russellville Police, its officers responded to a burglary alarm at the AT&T store, 3065 East Main on Wednesday morning shortly before 2. Officers first at the scene noticed a broken window and a suspicious vehicle (Chevrolet Trailblazer) leaving the area. An officer tried to stop the SUV but the driver sped away.
A pursuit moved on to Interstate 40 heading eastbound, the pursuit continued until the SUV wrecked at the 107 mile marker, when the driver tried to avoid the tire deflation system deployed by a Conway County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Mitchell and another man were arrested and taken to Conway Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of injuries.
Through the course of the investigation, Conway detectives developed Mitchell as a suspect in the break-in of the AT&T store in Conway that took place on Jan. 11. Someone broke into the store by throwing a piece of concrete through the door to get inside. CPD now has a warrant for Mitchell’s arrest on charges of commercial burglary and theft of property.
It's not yet known if Mitchell left the hospital by walking or in a vehicle. He is also a suspect in several other similar burglaries in the area.
