CONWAY COUNTY, AR - A bus driver for the South Conway County School District has been taken into custody.
It's not yet known if they will be charged in a Thursday afternoon incident.
The Conway County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) says it received a call around 4 p.m. about a school bus headed north on Hwy. 9. The caller said the bus driver had let about a dozen kids off the bus at Hwy. 9 and Pinter Lane before the driver also got out and was seen talking on a cell phone.
While deputies were on the way to investigate, the CCSO says a second call came in to report that the driver had gotten back on the bus, which continued north on Hwy. 9 with children still on board.
Troopers with the Arkansas State Police and CCSO deputies were able to get him stopped without incident about a half-mile down Lonoke Rd.
The CCSO says the driver at that time said he had a meltdown.
Another bus was called in to pickup the children and take them home.
The investigation into the incident continues.
