"We just voted as a legislature to keep this seat vacant for almost a year and the governor signed that into law. So on the campaign trail people would ask do you really need that office? Well, I think as long as we have the office we need a good person in there but that's a different question. I don't think that we do need the office and it was hard to give a defense for that," says Mayberry.
Mayberry faces Congressman Tim Griffin and State Representative Debra Hobbs in the May primary for lieutenant governor.
