BRYANT, AR (News release) - The Bryant Middle School and Elementary School was evacuated today just before noon after a teacher overheard some students talking about a message written on the inside of a bathroom stall door in the boy’s bathroom that indicated there was a bomb in the school. The teacher immediately notified the school office of this and along with the school resource officer and the principal, they were able to confirm the message.
Several police units responded to the area where the streets around the school were blocked and an evacuation of both the middle school and elementary was conducted. Once the schools were cleared of all students, teachers and staff, a team from the Little Rock Air Force Base came in with 2 bomb search dogs and began searching the school.
During this time the Bryant Police investigators started interviewing witnesses to the incident, which led to a potential suspect who later confessed to leaving the threat. The suspect confirmed with investigators that there was no bomb in the school. It is unclear at this time what the motives were for leaving the message. Due to being a juvenile, the suspect's name cannot be released.
The suspect was taken into custody and will be charged with: Communicating a False Alarm which is a Class D Felony.
