RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. ( The Local Rundown)- A male juvenile has been arrested for breaking into vehicles and possessing a handgun on school grounds.
Russellville Police Department Public Information Director Quinn Jones said in a release on Wednesday that reports were made about a juvenile entering vehicles on school property. A school resource officer made contact with the suspect, who fled. He was apprehended near the campus a short time later.
The suspect possessed a handgun and stolen property at the time of being taken into custody. He was transported to Danville Juvenile Detention Center and has been charged with breaking and entering, theft of property, carrying a prohibited weapon on school grounds, and other charges. According to the Russellville School District, the suspect was not a student in Russellville.
The Russellville School District released a statement on the matter Wednesday afternoon:
"This afternoon, a Russellville School District resource officer and Russellville High School administrator apprehended a juvenile near the RHS campus who was suspected of breaking into and taking items from several unlocked vehicles. The juvenile was not a RHS student.
Upon arrival, the Russellville Police Department took the suspect into custody. During the arrest, a firearm was confiscated. All items taken from the vehicles were returned to RHS students. No RHS students were involved in this incident at any time. Thank you to the RSD resource officer, administrator, and Russellville Police Department for the quick action taken to resolve this incident."
