Web Extra: Winning the Addiction Fight

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Winning the fight against addiction can be a long road for many.

Whether it's a battle against pills (like Madeline Tate's which we profiled in a special report Tuesday night), other drugs or alcohol, getting clean and sober takes lots of support and determination.

Some statistics on addiction may surprise many people.

In 2013, Arkansas had the highest rate of teen prescription drug abuse in the country.

The Arkansas Department of Health reports that prescription drugs often lead to heroin. Doctors say heroin use rates are greater for Arkansas high school seniors than the national rate.

Nationwide, there was a 109 percent increase in heroin use for people between 18 and 25 over the last decade.
