SPIRO, Okla. - Investigators have finished digging at a local property where they thought there might be evidence in the case of missing Arkansas girl Morgan Nick, who disappeared in 1995.
The LeFlore County Sheriff's Office said the FBI and multiple law enforcement agencies started digging up the back yard of a home in Spiro on Monday following a tip they received. They did not confirm the search was related to Nick's disappearance, but the same property was investigated in 2010 in relation to the case.
The FBI did not comment on the search.
Sheriff Rob Seal said crews dug about two feet into the back yard during their search before they hit bedrock.
"We're satisfied there's no evidence at that scene," Seal said.
The property owner, who is not related to the case, gave authorities permission to search the yard so they didn't have to apply for warrants, Seal said. This meant authorities could wrap the search up quick.
Now crews are working to restore the yard and will leave once that is complete, according to the sheriff.
"I have never given up hope that Morgan is out there waiting to be found. I will continue to fight for Morgan's return home," said her mother Colleen Nick on Tuesday afternoon.
