LITTLE ROCK, Ark - In exclusive details and photos, we are learning more about the man accused of trying to rob a Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) detective and firing a shot at her.
Police say Gregory Lamont Childress, 44, of Little Rock, tried to rob LRPD Detective Angela Everett while she was working off-duty at the State Revenue Office on Rodney Parham Road. The incident happened Feb. 24 around 7:45 p.m.

Police say Everett was leaving the Revenue Office with bank bags, walking to her unmarked police car parked in the parking lot, when a silver SUV quickly drove up and parked behind her car. She told police that a man, later identified as Gregory, got out of the car carrying a handgun and wearing a mask.

Everett said the man came toward her and shot at her, hitting her car. In exclusive surveillance photos obtained by KARK 4 News, you can see Everett firing back with her LRPD-issued gun. Gregory was hit and died at the scene.

According to Little Rock Police Chief Kenton Buckner, at least three suspects came in the SUV, including Gregory. Police have interviewed the two other persons of interest but they have been released.

Police say the suspected SUV in the incident was found nearby on Reservoir Road, abandoned. Police identified the SUV as a 2014 Silver Chevy Tahoe which was reported stolen by a Little Rock woman earlier that day.

Police say Gregory's brother, Durell Childress, shot and killed a Little Rock police officer in 1993.
