UPDATE: Batesville Police have released the name of the police officer injured after a Friday night shooting.
According to Batesville Police Chief, Alan Cockrill, Michael Dickinson was responding to a domestic incident on Neeley Street around 7:40 Friday night.
Cockrill says Dickinson was shot 3 times.
Dickinson is currently in ICU in serious but stable condition. He's expected to undergo surgery, but should but a full recovery.
BATESVILLE, Ark. -- The Arkansas State Police have released details about a shooting that left a Batesville police officer injured and the alleged shooter dead.
The officer is expected to recover.
The Batesville Police Department has asked for the assistance of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division after the officer involved shooting occurred last night.
It happened around 7:40 p.m. Friday.
The Batesville Police Department officer responded to a residence located on Neeley Street.
The officer made contact with Marvin Stair, 44, who immediately fired a gun at the officer striking him multiple times.
The officer returned fire, retreated to cover, and called for assistance.
According to initial statements, as additional officers were arriving at the residence, Marvin Stair appeared from the front door of the home and pointed a rifle at them, leading police to fire on the suspect.
Stair was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body will be turned-over to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for examination.
Upon completion of the investigation, Arkansas State Police Special Agents assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division will present an investigative file to the prosecuting attorney for determination of whether use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws.
