LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - UCA head football coach Steve Campbell has been hired as South Alabama's next football coach, it was announced on Thursday.
In the last four seasons with the Bears, the head football coach had posted a 33-15 record.
More on Campbell's career from his UCA bio:
Campbell inherited a program that had won two Southland Conference titles, made two FCS Playoff appearances and had three seasons of at least nine victories since moving to NCAA Division I in 2006.
Campbell, who came to UCA from a highly successful 10-year stint at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, has fit nicely into the program, leading the Bears to a 6-6 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the highly competitive Southland Conference in his first season. In his second season, the Bears tied for second in the SLC with a 7-2 mark and went 7-4 overall.
Campbell brought to Conway a resume that features three national championships as a player or coach. He has experience in the Southeastern Conference, in the SLC as a player and coach and a rich background in the talent-laden Mississippi junior college ranks.
