Top 5 Good News Stories for the Week of October 2

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- Because Good News Matters,  every Friday we'll take a look back at our Top 5 Good News moments of the week.

5. We first go to Northwest Arkansas along Benton County Road 98 to War Eagle Creek, where the historic War Eagle Bridge reopened.

The one lane bridge that was originally built by the Illinois Steel Bridge Company back in 1907, was closed back in May due to a restoration project.

4.  Our next stop along the Trail of Good News is in the Capital City. On Wednesday, the Little Rock Zoo announced that two penguin chicks had been hatched. 

The hatching of the two chicks came from a recommendation by the African penguin Species Survival Plan. The two chicks help to further ensure the long-term survival of these endangered animals.

3. One story that we were bound to chalk up to the Good News Top 5 was that named "Kindness in Chalk." Kindness in Chalk is a nationwide anti-bullying message. McNair Middle School in Fayetteville came on board to promote kindness through chalk messages.

Their slogan is "Kindness in chalk. One sidewalk. One message. One million smiles."

2. A family of four turned into a family of six on Thursday as their long appeals process ended and they were able to adopt two children from Uganda.  Friends and family held up welcome signs at the XNA airport for the new arrivals.

1. Our top Good news story of the week comes from Garland County. On Tuesday, a 19-year-old woman tiptoed back and forth between life and death on an overpass in Hot Springs. When officers arrived,  they tried to talk to her and close the distance between them.  During that time, the woman looked away from the officer to 35 feet down below. The officer made a split second decision to grab the woman and pulled her to safety.
