SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Walmart is honoring a local student who gave up his summer to give back to his community.
Eighth grader Alex Reynolds is now a Walmart "Everyday Hero" for Northwest Arkansas.
This summer, Reynolds started a nonprofit called "Clean Start," where he collected hygiene supplies for less fortunate kids in the area.
He also used a grant to help supply emergency backpacks for some schools in the Elkins area.
Reynolds says he was particularly excited about one of his gifts from Walmart, a brand new laptop.
"I was so surprised, I could barely speak up there. So, it was just phenomenal that Walmart would just be that generous to give me all this...all those things," he says.
Walmart selects one person every year for the award.
