RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (River Valley Leader) - The Russellville Police Department, Russellville Fire Department and Pope County EMS responded to the area of East Parkway Drive and Greenwich Avenue after a motor vehicle collision occurred between a school bus and and a pickup truck.
At approximately 7:40 a.m. Friday morning, September 1, Pope County 911 dispatchers received a 911 call reporting the crash.
According to Russellville School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Gotcher, "No serious injuries were reported in the accident, but a few girls who were passengers on the bus, were picked up from the scene by their parents and taken to be evaluated further just to be safe." The other students riding the bus when the crash occurred reported to officials that they "were not injured and were later transferred to another bus and transported to school safely."
The collision occurred as the school bus was traveling west on Parkway Drive when it was struck on the right side just in front of the rear tire by a truck, after the truck ran the stop sign on Greenwich Avenue. The male driver of the truck was not injured in the crash, but both vehicles sustained moderate damage in the accident.
Dr. Gotcher advised, "Parents were notified of the accident as soon as possible and students were immediately evaluated by RFD and EMS once they arrived on scene."
Gotcher also stated, "I would like to compliment the officers with the Russellville Police Department for their quick response to the scene and for handling the situation so well. The Russellville Police Department, Russellville Fire Department and Pope County EMS are to be commended for their quick response and for the care of our students."
Just after 8 a.m. Friday morning, students were transferred to a second bus and then transported to school. Special thanks are offered to the Russellville Police Department, Russellville Fire Department and Pope County EMS for their assistance during the incident.
