MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Two drivers have been robbed this week on separate Memphis interstates after their vehicles were rear-ended.
Our sister station in Memphis, localmemphis.com, reports the most recent robbery happened around 4 a.m. Thursday on I-240 in East Memphis.
According to Memphis Police, the victim says he was driving on 240 just before 4 a.m. when he was involved in a wreck near Walnut Grove. He says a small dark vehicle rear-ended his car as he was on I-240. When he got out of his car to check the damage, he says one man got out of the passenger side of the other car, armed with a gun. The gunman demanded money and his cell phone.
The victim said the gunman then got into his 2015 red Chevrolet Cruze, and when the victim approached, he threatened him. He says the suspect then drove off in his car, with the second suspect following.
The victim walked to Baptist Hospital, where he called police.
Around 5 a.m., OnStar located the stolen car in the Hillview Village Apartments on Alcy Road in Southeast Memphis. Police recovered the car, but the suspects were not found.
This is the second interstate wreck and robbery this week in Memphis. On Tuesday morning, a man says he was rear-ended on I-55 near Brooks Road, then robbed when he got out of his car. His car was recovered Wednesday.
