HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - A Benton man is behind bars at the Garland County Detention Center after police say he drove away when officers tried to pull him over.
The pursuit began around 12:40 Monday afternoon at a restaurant along East Grand Avenue and ended with Daniel Steven Brown, 34, going to jail.
The Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) says officers had learned that Brown, who was wanted for a string of felonies, was seen at a McDonald's on East Grand. As officers were driving up, police say Brown got into a vehicle and took off. The HSPD officers chased after Brown onto Grand and eventually Albert Pike Road. When Brown left the Hot Springs city limits, Arkansas State Police took over the pursuit.
Police say Brown later turned onto Mountain Pine Rd. (Hwy. 227), struck a vehicle then drove on into the parking lot of the EZ-Mart. A Garland County Sheriff's Office deputy, who was also involved in the pursuit then rammed and disabled Brown’s vehicle.
Brown was taken into custody without further incident. He will face additional charges of felony fleeing and multiple traffic-related offenses. Before the chase, Brown had been wanted for unauthorized use of a vehicle, battery second degree, theft of property and fleeing.
