One Maker of Arkansas Execution Drug Identified

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (NWAHomepage.com) -- One of the makers of the drugs used to execute Arkansas inmates has been identified.

The company, which is called Athenex, makes the drug Midazolam that is administered by the Arkansas Department of Correction in executions.

Last week, a circuit court ruled that Arkansas law doesn't protect drug manufacturers from Freedom of Information Act requests.

Representatives from Athenex released a statement saying it does not want any of its drugs used for capital punishment.

The Athenex website says the company focuses mainly on finding cures for cancer.
