LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A new initiative will soon allow students to have extra time on the playground.
The Arkansas Department of Education is now looking for schools to participate.
This was originally passed in the legislature last year. Participating schools must provide kindergarten through 4th grade students at least 60 minutes per day for physical activity.
Students in 5th and 6th grade should have at least 45 minutes per day.
It's a pilot program and the Department of Education is looking for 32 schools to get involved.
One parent says she's absolutely supports this change.
"It helps to also charge their minds when you're active. It's just good for the total body. So yes, let's do this," Sabrenna Lee said.
All Arkansas public schools can apply.
Once schools are picked, it won't start until the next school year.
