SHERIDAN, Ark.- A very special day for a third grader a Sheridan Intermediate School. His dad was deployed overseas for the last six months.
Friday he wanted to surprise his son at school.
"I feel like they've grown up and I'm not there," says US Army Chaplain Brandon Jendrejas who spent the last six months in Central America.
This isn't the first time he's been gone, but this time he had to leave his wife and three young sons.
"I got back, my middle child is speaking way more clearly," says Jendrejas, "my youngest child is speaking, and my oldest son is in the 3rd grade."
He says it was hardest on his oldest son, Joel when he left.
"We've been best buds forever."
When he found out he was coming home, the family and the school coordinated to have the military father surprise his son at school.
The moment Joel realized his father was there drew an emotional response from everyone in the room, but perhaps no one was happier to see Jendrejas than Joel.
"I was just so excited," says Joel. "I just had to give him such a great big hug."
The body was found after a boating accident Friday night.
