MAUMELLE, Ark. - Voters are at the polls in Maumelle Tuesday for a special election.
They're deciding on three ballot initiatives. Each one requires a tax increase for the city.
The main initiative, if passed, would pay for a new interchange on Interstate 40 at the end of Counts Massie Road.
Supporters say the initiatives promote economic growth and also address traffic concerns.
"Today is a very important day for Maumelle. It really is the future for what we can have and obtain for our residents and business to this area. Three ballot issues are so important to our future growth and expansion," says Alicia Gillen, Executive Director of the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce.
Opponents of the initiatives believe increasing taxes is not the answer.
The polls are open until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
