LR Church Celebrates 154th Anniversary

The historic Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Little Rock is marking yet another milestone.

The church on west 16th Street is celebrating its 154th anniversary this weekend.

Bethel A.M.E. moved to its present location from 9th Street back in 1967

Daisy Bates and four members of the Little Rock Nine have been a part of the Bethel congregation throughout the years.

Rev. Truman Tolefree is the pastor at Bethel A.M.E., and he says he's proud of the heritage the Church has.
"Several transitions that have been made and what has been involved in and  it really is a great honor to serve as the pastor and this is my home church to be able to come back and serve as the pastor it is indeed a great honor."

Next week  the church will host a free event to give back to the community from noon to five.

That event includes food, gospel music, and free haircuts as well as health checkups. More information on the event is listed below in Bethel A.M.E.'s press release.
