LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - With thousands of miles and visits now logged, the Little Rock School District says its mobile security team has been a success.
New numbers show, it's been beneficial to the 33 elementary schools, as well as middle and high schools.
In the 2016-2017 school year the mobile patrol officers performed over 15-thousand school checks.
That breaks down to visiting each school 454 times per school year at least seven times per day.
Now the safety director says while there may have been pushback, it's driven up safety, and cut down costs.
"We wanted to come up with a way to better secure our schools and create our atmosphere where we can respond to more bus stops and respond to incidents happening in schools," says Ron Self, LRSD Director of Safety.
The mobile patrol unit had close to a dozen officers at last Friday's football games.
