JONESBORO, Ark -- A group of East Arkansas students are using their skills to make bus routes in their area less chaotic.
The kids are from Nettleton Middle School in Jonesboro
Two weeks ago, they started mapping what routes their buses travel throughout the week with the help of a geographical mapping system and a GPS tracker.
Their goal is to look for the best pickup and drop off locations while identifying the best roads to travel.
"They are starting to think oh! I can actually connect this to help everyone in the school district and they are reaching out and talking to the community", said Courtney Speer, an East Lab facilitator at the school. "It has just been nice to watch them get that empowerment. 'I can do something I can make a change".
If all goes well, the students plan to look into how to add another bus stop to the route to give kids more options.
Cue the endless, diapers, wipes and sleepless nights.
