Japanese Outreach Initiative at Cabot Middle School South

CABOT, Ark. - Fifth and sixth graders at Cabot Middle School South are learning a new culture.

It's through the Japanese Outreach Initiative where students engage with a Japanese instructor who educates them about the language, music, and art of the country.

The instructor says the purpose of this initiative is to develop a deeper understanding of Japan and inspire continued learning.

"The more and more kids here know about Japan..and like Japan so that in future with Japan and other countries we can create a better relationship," says Aya Murata, Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator.

"I think it strengthens the bonds we have with other countries," says Nicholas Coyle, 6th Grader.

The program involves instruction in Origami and traditional Japanese dance.

Murata says it is these human-to-human relationships across different cultures that will build a better future. You can learn more about this initiative through the Office of International Programs at Hendrix College.
