CONWAY, Ark. - Two Molotov cocktails were found at the scene of last week's apartment building fire that injured two residents and led to an arson charge for another resident.
That's according to a search warrant investigators had obtained after finding potential evidence at the scene shortly after the fire was out.
We obtained the document on Monday from Faulkner County Circuit Court.
David Hartsell, 50, is also charged with two counts of battery for the fire that heavily damaged a 12-unit apartment building at the Germantown Apartments complex on South German Lane.
According to the search warrant, firefighters found the incendiary devices in Apartment 12, where Hartsell lived. The document states that one cocktail was visible from outside the apartment and appeared to be a large bottle with the wick still attached sitting on the kitchen counter. The other cocktail reported was a gasoline can under the sink, also with a wick coming out of it.
When Hartsell was interviewed, investigators said he had a strong smell of accelerants, mainly gasoline, on his person.
He is being held on $500,000 bond.
Officials say Hartsell had been charged with arson in Conway County in 2005. He reportedly pleaded guilty in the case and was sentenced to probation.
The body was found after a boating accident Friday night.
