PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. - A Jefferson County man is jailed on a manslaughter charge after an early morning shooting death in Hensley.
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) says Derek Cole Elder, 27, was "involved in an attempted robbery that resulted in the death" of Ryan Reed, 29, of Redfield.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. at a home in the 27000 block of Oak Road.
The PCSO says Reed was shot by someone inside the home after he pulled a gun on them during a dispute over "property" he believed was his. Deputies say Elder was not armed. The person who shot Reed was not charged in the incident and their name was not released.
"The dude [Reed] had to have threatened them," said Nancy Stigall, a neighbor of the person who shot Reed.
"He had to have threatened them because they're good people," said Willie Stigall, Nancy's husband. "They'll help anybody, do anything for anybody. They're real nice."
Reed had reportedly gone to the home to retrieve the "property" and Elder had gone there with him. The PCSO says Reed's body was found inside a shed.
