LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A local dance studio owner has been chosen to lead the USA dance company at a world competition in Poland.
They're up against 30 other countries. But with a lifetime of experience, this dancer is up for it. Kristen Pittman has been dancing since she was two years old.
"Dancing is my life, my escape, my passion, my way to express myself," she says.
She turned her passion into a career, opening Rock City Dance Center in 2010. It has since become one of the premiere dance studios in the area.
"To be able to coach children in this is the most rewarding thing in the world," she adds.
And now her talent is taking Pittman to a global stage.
"The team's made up of 19 dancers. Some are from Arkansas and others are from other states across the country and they travel to Little Rock to be a part of Team USA," she continues.
They'll be up against eight thousand other performances.
"The planning we have to go into each rehearsal is huge," she says.
But for Pittman, it's a dream come true.
"The opportunity is huge...as dancers will be on an international stage and representing the USA. It's things we dream of since we were little kids," says Kristen.
Team USA will compete in December and Kristen hopes to come home with a gold medal. But regardless of what happens, she says "I'm so honored to be able to coach dancers to represent us on a national stage."
