LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A fast food restaurant on the city's west side has been gutted by fire.
Little Rock firefighters were called to the scene at the KFC on West Markham St. near Bowman Road around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
When they arrived, crews saw flames shooting through the roof. At that time, officials say the fire was so out of control that it was too risky to send firefighters inside. The blaze was brought under control after about an hour.
After daybreak, the extensive damage could be better seen. Large sections of the roof were gone or caved in.
Firefighters say it looks like the blaze started in the back of restaurant but the fire's cause and a damage estimate are not yet known.
Westbound traffic on West Markham had to be rerouted around the fire scene until crews had the flames extinguished.
