CABOT, Ark. - Some local high school students have turned a classroom project into a small business.
K-9 Crackers are tasty tidbits made with love for man's best friend.
Making the dog treats a couple of times a week is a favorite venture for the class.
"It's always hard to find jobs in the community for our students," says Shelley Moore, Special Education Teacher.
That problem led to the project that in turn blossomed into a business.
Shelley says it helps teach her students with special needs how to prepare for work after high school.
"They've learned to talk to other people. They've learned money skills, how to fill orders," she explains.
After six years in business, the group has added to its menu. They're now serving ice cream and cupcakes! Olivia's favorite!
"Because it's fun and it's pretty cool," she says.
Their taste tester is Skye and all the kids love her.
"They really get excited, especially when people send in pictures of their dog eating K-9 Crackers," Shelley adds.
Just as excited are the dogs who get the tasty treats and also people in the community who support the business.
"Use our profits to go to prom every year," continues Shelley. "We get a photographer and we go out to dinner."
The dog treats cost up to 10 dollars...but you can't put a price tag on the joy this business brings to students like Olivia.
You can buy the dog treats on the CHSk9Crackers Facebook page or contact Shelley Moore at Cabot High School.
