HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. --A man is dead after suffering medical distress following a struggle with Sheriff's deputies in Cleburne County.
The name of the man has not been released.
According to Sheriff Chris Brown, deputies were assisting an ambulance crew who had called for help while on a medical call.
When deputies arrived they tried to talk to a man they say was being combative.
The report "a very intense physical altercation" took place and lasted for several minutes before the man was taken into custody.
The man began experiencing medical distress. Deputies began CPR and received assistance from the ambulance crew.
The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The deputies were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The investigation was turned over to the State Police.
