Cat's Adoption Leads to $25K Award for AR Animal Shelter

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. - The adoption of a cat for a man who needed a furry friend has led to a $25,000 award for a local animal shelter.

The story of "Jerry" changing his owner's life for the better proved inspirational for Petco Foundation's Holiday Wishes campaign and sent the financial windfall to the Hot Springs Village Animal Welfare League (HSVAWL).

Debe Jolliff had sent in the story to the campaign, sharing details about what the feline friendship did for her father. Click here to read the story Debe submitted.

The $25,000 award was delivered Thursday in a special check presentation.

Neither Debe nor HSVAWL knew how much the grant was going to be for until they saw the check.

This year, the Petco Foundation will deliver a total of $765,000 in grant awards during Holiday Wishes celebrations from now until Dec. 20– including one $100,000 grand prize, and a series of finalist awards ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to support the tremendous lifesaving efforts carried out by these deserving organizations year-round.
