Benton Police Make Arrest after Tip Received on Possible School Threat

BENTON, Ark. - The investigation into a possible threat directed toward the Benton Junior High School campus has led to the arrest of a juvenile.

A news release issued by the Benton Police Department (BNPD) on Friday provided details.

The BNPD says it received information on Thursday evening that was quickly investigated by officers and detectives who then took the juvenile into custody without incident within 45 minutes of the tip being received.

"BNPD thanks all who shared valuable information that resulted in curtailing the potential threat, as the safety of our children is paramount. This incident remains an ongoing investigation," said police in the news release.

A social media search turns up a post some parents were sharing Thursday night that contained threatening language and racial slurs. One of the posts states that police were notified and stated they'd had numerous calls about it.

Anyone with additional information is urged to call the Benton Police Department at (501) 778-1171 or (501) 315-TIPS. Anonymous tips may also be sent via text to CRIMES (274637) with the keyword BNPD in the body of the message or via the official Benton Police Department app available on iTunes and Google Play.
