Arkansas Lawmakers Debate over Prescriptions

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - After a lot of back and forth and a couple of failed votes Arkansas lawmakers have decided to hold off on approving a new rule to prescriptions.

A regulation change at the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy would include biosimilars... which are interchangeable products with those that are FDA-approved.

According to documents, during the board's public comment period, pharmacies like Walmart and Sam's Club support the rule.

But organizations like the Digestive Disease National Coalition don't.

"It needs to be properly vetted. Both sides need to be heard. Even with what we're doing today, there's a concern to me that I've never seen this rule. Still haven't seen it because it hasn't gotten to my desk," says State Rep. Reginald Murdock (D) Marianna.

Lawmakers decided to refer it back to their Rules and Regulations Committee and recommended it be sent to the Public Health Committee.
