AR Man Swims English Channel as Fundraiser

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A Fayetteville man successfully swam across the English Channel just weeks ago, seven years after his first attempt.

The 56-year-old decided to swim the 19-mile stretch of water as a fundraiser for Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) in Little Rock.

Steffan Sarkin's son, Noah, was 11 when an accident at soccer practice left him with a massive head injury.

Thanks to ACH, Noah underwent emergency brain surgery and survived.

"It was incredibly emotional, not when I finished it but about two hours before...that was when the realization was that I could finish this thing," Steffan said.

"Being able to turn his hobby into something he can give back to people is just amazing, very inspiring, super humbling," added Noah.

Steffan plans to donate money raised from future swims to ACH Northwest. He's already raised more than 200-thousand dollars for ACH in Little Rock.
