16 AR Teachers Receive Sponsorships to Attend National Computer Science Conference

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (News release) — The Arkansas Department of Education Office of Computer Science is pleased to announce $1,000 sponsorships to offset the cost for 16 Arkansas teachers to attend the 2018 Computer Science Teachers Association Annual Conference in Omaha, Nebraska.

The sponsorships will assist educators with expanding their knowledge of computer science and give them the opportunity to network with other educators from around the world at the CSTA conference, which will be held July 7 to 10, 2018.

“CSTA applauds Arkansas for its commitment to advancing K-12 CS education by supporting these 16 educators to attend the 2018 CSTA Annual Conference in Omaha,” Deborah Seehorn, CSTA interim director, said. “The CSTA Annual Conference is the premier professional learning conference for CS educators. The 16 educators who receive the sponsorships will benefit profoundly from participating in the conference. Once again, Arkansas is leading the way in successful implementation of K-12 CS education. We challenge other states to follow suit!”

The $1,000 sponsorships are open to Arkansas K-12 public school teachers, librarians, curriculum coordinators, counselors and other educators who have demonstrated their commitment to technology integration and computer science education at their school or district.

Selected educators will be required to attend the CSTA conference and participate in various conference and state delegation activities. Recipients will receive the sponsorships after the conference to offset conference expenses.
