PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL - A Little Rock man has died in a jet ski accident while vacationing in Florida.
WJHG-TV reports that Bryan McManus, 25, died Thursday afternoon in Panama City Beach when the watercraft he was driving collided head-on with a boat just offshore from St. Andrews State Park.
Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission officers say McManus was one of a group of people that rented jet skis from Treasure Island Marina. They were riding the jet skis in a line through Grand Lagoon at the time of the accident.
Witnesses told investigators that McManus was heading toward a boat that delivers bait to fishing boats. Both he and the boat captain swerved, but could not avoid the collision.
McManus fell into the water, along with another man riding on the boat. The boat captain pulled both men out of the water and headed for the St. Andrews State Park boat ramp.
Several people started performing CPR on McManus until paramedics arrived, including his father-in-law who had been riding a jet ski behind McManus.
Doctors at Bay Medical Sacred Heart pronounced McManus dead on arrival. No one else was injured.
Fish and Wildlife Officers have confiscated both the jet ski and the boat for their investigation.
The State Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine McManus' cause of death.
Officials told WJHG-TV that McManus leaves behind his wife and a five-month-old baby.
